Calculator Use

A graphing scientificand Four-function calculators are accepted or provided for some Practice (r) tests. If it is not specifically clarified that a specific calculator is allowed for a specific test and test, calculators are not permitted to be used.

Test-takers are not permitted to share calculators.

Tests That Do Not Permit Use of a Calculator

In generally, unless specifically stated that a particular type of calculator is permitted or necessary for a specific test, calculators are not allowed to be used in some practice test.

Tests That Permit the Use of a Calculator

It is possible to use a 4-function or scientific calculator to pass taking the Middle School: Content Knowledge (5146) test, though you are not required to do so. Bring your own calculator to the testing center. The calculator is not available at the testing center. A graphing calculator cannot be permitted during this test.

Types of CalculatorsThat Are Not Permitted

The following are not permitted for Praxis Praxis

  • Laptops or portable computers that can be carried around
  • Electronic writing pads
  • Models with pen-input/stylus/touch-screen capability
  • Calculators on any phones and watches as well as on other electronic devices
  • Models that include QWERTY or other alphabetic keypads in software or hardware
  • Models that print
  • Models that make noise or "talk"
  • The models require an electrical outlet
  • Models that can access the internet via wireless or Bluetooth (r) capability
  • Models with a camera and scanner capability, or the capability to record/play digital audio or video

In addition, use of any peripheral devices is not allowed.

Tests That Provide an On-screen Calculator

Calculators that are supplied by test takers will not be allowed for Praxis exams which have calculators on screen.

On-Screen Scientific Calculator

This set of practice tests offer an on-screen scientific calculator. The tests make use of the TX-30XS MultiView(tm) calculator. A tutorial is provided so you can practice using the calculator's on-screen interface prior to test day.
